Recently we had a visit from Alberta OH&S. They were concerned with the smoke and particles being emitted in our small welding area where we use small welding joint connections for hanging gutters on our metal buildings. We are in a new shop and spent a good amount of resources, both research and money to have a good ventilation system. Also our welder uses a POV helmet while welding. OH&S issued a report with an order given to get better ventilation and to do an industrial assessment. I had Demetrio Guzzardi come and do an assessment for our employees and on our work place. The report came back that we were well below the acceptable limits. OH&S came back saying we were not in the limits as per the manganese exposure. We challenged them on this. OH&S asked for a meeting to discuss this with one of their experts. When we had this meeting I went through the results of the assessment and stated what the regulations said. Demetrio then explained the industry practices and stated clearly in a professional manner that their understanding or rather their interpretation of the Regulations and code was incorrect and explained to them in a very professional manner why. The order / report was removed without further argument. I was very thankful for the scientific proof that Demetrio offered but more so was impressed of his knowledge and professionalism. I would recommend Demetrio without hesitation to any one of in need of his services and would be more then glad to use his services in the future.
